Detox flush programs can help to remove toxic build up in the body which could otherwise be a cause of illness. Although there are still some people who claim that detox is not necessary, it is obvious that we are living in an era where there is a great deal of pollution in the air, contaminants in our water and food, and environmental hazard which we cannot avoid encountering. Even if we do eat a healthy diet, there is still going to be some toxic build up in the body.
Although the media have become interested in detox diets in a big way, they are probably doing the entire concept a disservice. As well as the critics who don't believe that detoxification is necessary, we have the short term quick fix programs which probably reinforce the impression that detox is a gimmick. Yes, if all you do is follow a program for two days and then go back to unhealthy eating and a poor lifestyle, detox is a gimmick and will not work for you. Only a consistent long term approach can bring you sustained good health.
Many of the detox flush programs fit into that short term category, and as such they are limited in their effectiveness. This does not mean, however, that they cannot be adapted to work well as part of a system for overall improvement. The key is to assess where you are now, and to work with that accordingly. If you are already fit, and following a healthy diet, then your liver is probably functioning normally. In this case, a detox flush will probably work well for you. It is the people who have been following an unhealthy diet for years who need to amend the system.
If you desperately feel the need for a detox, the chances are you are not quite ready for it. Start by cutting down the excess toxins that the body has to deal with, as much as you can. Nobody can control the environment, but you can make sure you limit foods which are too rich in saturated fat, salt or sugar, and also processed foods and refined starches. Give your liver a chance to recover for a bit before you go full steam ahead into a detox plan.
As soon as you feel you are ready, you can start to incorporate your detox flush, but make it one day only for now. You will do a lot of good with that, and you will be getting your liver used to expelling toxins. Build up as you go along, and just go with whatever feels right. When you are confident that the time is right for you to extend your fasting, it probably will be. You can then step up your efforts and really cleanse your body with a good detox flush.
